Wisconsin has resisted cannabis reform despite strong polling support and growing legalization in neighboring Illinois, Michigan, and Minnesota. Wisconsin's strict prohibition leaves hundreds of thousands of residents at legal risk for cannabis use that is legal just across state lines, creating an unequal standard that falls hardest on low-income communities. Federal legalization would give Wisconsin residents the same rights their neighbors enjoy and create pressure on the state legislature to finally act on the clear will of Wisconsin voters.
